Fitness enthusiast and reviewer from Madrid

The Short Version

I go by Mateo Fernández and am based in Madrid, and over the past several years I’ve been documenting my observations at gyms throughout Spain.

This site was born from frustration with selecting gyms based on ads and hazy tips, only to discover the reality didn’t match. I wanted concrete, candid details about what these places were really like, and since none were available, I chose to build them myself.

How This Started

My workout regimen began at a modest gym near Calle de Velázquez in Madrid. It wasn’t flawless, yet it was approachable, affordable, and it helped me stay consistent.

After it shut down, I observed rapid changes in Spain's fitness scene. New clubs opened, fresh concepts emerged, and marketing grew louder than actual member experiences.

I began trying a variety of gyms and classes, jotting notes after each visit. Those notes eventually formed this site to help others make better-informed decisions.

My Approach to Reviews

All reviews here stem from genuine visits and time spent in the facility. I emphasize practical factors that matter when selecting a membership.

When I review a fitness center, I typically:

  • Spend sufficient time to grasp routines, peak periods, and trends
  • Visit on different days and at different times
  • Experiment with multiple training formats and trainers
  • Use facilities regularly to assess cleanliness and comfort
  • Converse with other members about consistency
  • Take notes right after each visit

I revise reviews when meaningful changes occur: renovations, new management, price updates, or new facilities. Each entry shows its most recent update date to indicate currency.

What I Look For

My priorities may differ from yours, so here’s what matters most to me when judging a gym:

Comfort and Privacy: Does the space feel genuinely well-designed for members, with respectful boundaries and a calm atmosphere?

Equipment Quality: Are machines well-maintained? Is there enough variety? Do things get fixed promptly?

Crowd Management: Can you actually train during your chosen time without constant waits?

Clean Facilities: Locker rooms, showers, floors, and equipment surfaces. Cleanliness shows how seriously management treats the member experience.

Honest Membership Practices: Clear pricing, clear rules, and no unpleasant surprises.

Beyond the Gym

Away from workouts and drafting, I reside in Madrid and work there. This project aims to simplify fitness decisions and provide clearer choices for people seeking the right setting.
